Springfield, Illinois – On January 24, 2019, a Springfield Police Officer, who was sitting in his vehicle, was approached by a woman who stated that she observed a man masturbating in Planet Fitness Parking Lot, located at 1756 Wabash.
The woman told the officer that she had just left planet fitness around 5:56 p.m., when she observed a white male sitting in his vehicle pleasuring himself. The officer asked her what happened? And the woman stated that she parked in a parking space next to a gray Ford on the passenger side. When she looked over, the man was messing around with his pants. The woman said she went inside Planet Fitness to work out for forty five minutes and when she came back to her vehicle, the gray ford and the man were still there. Once she got inside her vehicle, she looked over, and saw a penis in man’s hand. (The woman has an SUV so her vehicle sits up higher).
The woman also told police, she believed the man is the same man masturbating last winter in the Planet Fitness Parking lot. The woman stated she was just about to change gyms if the man was not caught because she was tired of seeing it.
The officer was able to locate the vehicle in the parking lot of planet fitness. When the officer approached the vehicle, the suspect, who was identified as Kyle D. Haynes, age 37, exited the vehicle and started walking towards the post office. The officer told Kyle to stop, and he complied and started walking back towards the officer. The officer asked Kyle where he was going and he replied, “I’m going to the post office.” The officer told Kyle that a female flagged him down and told him that he was pleasuring himself. Kyle replied, “No I Just got here.” The officer reported that he looked inside Kyle’s vehicle and observed the driver’s seat reclined all the way back, almost in a horizontal position. When asked about the seat position, Kyle told the officer that he drives like that.
The officer arrested Kyle and he was booked into the Sangamon County Jail for disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor and public indecency lewd exposure, a class A misdemeanor. On January 27, 2020, Kyle was charged by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office with public indecency, both a class A misdemeanor.
According to the officer, there have been numerous reports of Kyle masturbating in the Planet Fitness parking lot. According to records, Kyle was arrested in June 2019 for the same thing, but was not charged in that incident.
