(VIDEO) Two arrested after pepper spraying and tables thrown inside Marshalls in Springfield, Illinois

Springfield, Illinois – On February 15, 2020 around 7:16 p.m., Springfield Police were called to Marshalls, located at 2560 E Wabash Ave, for a disturbance.




When officers arrived on scene they located Corneilous H. Brown, age 22 and Tericus D Mackey, age 36.

Officers say that a bystander filmed the incident on their cellphone (VIDEO AT END OF ARTICLE). In the video, Officers report they observed Tericus holding a pocket knife in his right hand and a small bottle of pepper spray in his left hand. Tericus then spits and sprays pepper spray towards Corneilous. In return, Corneilous picks up a small coffee table that was on display, and throws it at Tericus. Tericus then steps back towards Corneilous still armed. Corneilous then picks up another table and strikes Tericus with it.




Officers say that the incident caused shoppers and employees in the store to become alarmed and disturbed. “Watching the video it was evident that (Corneilous) Brown had the ability to remove himself from the situation and call 911,” reported the officer.

The cost of the two tables, which Corneilous was seen throwing, was valued around $200.00.

Corneilous and Tericus were both arrested and taken to the Sangamon County Jail. Corneilous was booked for Criminal Damage to property under $300, a class A misdemeanor, and Disorderly Conduct a Class C misdemeanor. He was released without charges, after paying 10 percent ($150), of his $1,500 bond.

Tericus was booked for Aggravated Battery/Use Deadly Weapon, a class 3 felony, Aggravated Assault, a class A misdemeanor, and Disorderly Conduct, a class C misdemeanor. In addition Tericus also had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a Driving while license suspended/revoked traffic ticket. Tericus was released without charges, after paying $300 for the traffic warrant and paying 10 percent ($500), of his $5,000 bond for the Marshalls incident.
