Springfield School District 186

Springfield, Illinois – District 186 Superintendent Jennifer Gill just announced that school will be open tomorrow and all after hour events and outside group events in our buildings are cancelled through spring break.

The statement says, “District 186 will be open tomorrow as we continue to monitor the local situation. We are working diligently to make the best decisions based on changing circumstances. Effective Friday, March 13, all after hour events and outside group events in our buildings are cancelled through spring break.

The latest guidance from the Sangamon County Department of Public Health and Governor Pritzker issued via press conferences late this afternoon included limiting the number of people that can gather in indoor areas to 250 and outdoor areas to 500. We are cancelling gatherings and assemblies and limiting the number of students that convene in one area during lunch time and before and after school for at least the next 30 days. Additionally, we are following the Sangamon-Menard Regional Office of Education guidance issued in a press release this evening which reiterated the recommendation to keep schools open.

We are still encouraging employees and students who are sick to stay home and emphasizing personal hygiene practices.

We are planning for every possibility at this time, including plans to provide academic continuity through at-home learning activities accessible with or without the use of technology.

We will continue to monitor this quickly evolving situation, keeping the safety of our staff and students, as well as the interests of the greater community top of mind.”
