Sangamon County Court House

Springfield, Illinois – Per an update from Sangamon County Judge John Madonia, he has ordered all criminal court cases, if a defendant is not in custody, to be postponed.

The statement says the following: By way of an update, the administrative order that is being entered today will also include postponement of all criminal matters if a defendant is not in custody, including petition to revoke hearings and felony first appearances. That is a modification from yesterday’s press release due to the very fluid nature of these circumstances.

All hearings that will be had with defendants who are in custody will be had by video conferencing whenever it is available (which is hopefully every hearing). Thus most felony matters should be docketed for 7C where we have video capability.

Also, the county building entrance on Adams will be closed to prevent unnecessary foot traffic, and to help ensure that court security can permit access only to those individuals who have legitimate business in the building. To the extent possible, efforts will be made to identify those individuals affected by the travel or health restrictions that would prohibit their entry, and their access will be denied accordingly.
