
Springfield, Illinois – On June 15, 2020, around. 12:22 a.m., Springfield Police responded to a fatal car crash in the 2700 block of Fox Bridge Road. The crash resulted in the death of a passenger – 29 year old Chaz R. Tribbet.
An officer, who responded to the scene of the crash, reported that he spoke with the driver of the vehicle, Edward E. Bullock Jr., age 28. While speaking with Bullock, the officer reported that he could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, eyes were glassy and his eyelids were heavy. When Bullock was asked how much he had to drink, he told the officer that he had one shot of Remy-Martin Cognac two to three hours before driving.
During Bullock’s field sobriety testing, which he agreed to perform, the officer observed multiple indicators that Bullock was under the influence of alcohol. Bullock agreed to perform an evidentiary Breath Alcohol Test which showed he was twice over the legal limit at .175
Bullock also agreed to speak with detectives after being read his Miranda rights. Bullock told detectives that he had 3 Remy-Martin Cognac drinks between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. He said that he lost control of his vehicle when he tried to avoid a collision with another vehicle on Fox Bridge Road.
Bullock was arrested and taken to the Sangamon County Jail. Today, the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office has officially charged him with 2 counts of Aggravated DUI, a class 2 felony, Aggravated DUI, a class 4 felony, and Reckless Homicide, a class 3 felony.
A Sangamon County Judge set bond yesterday for Bullock in the amount of $250,000. Bullock will need to pay 10 percent ($25,000) of his bond to be released from the Sangamon County Jail.
