Springfield, Illinois – Sangamon County Presiding Circuit Court Judge John “Mo” Madonia has confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
We were able to speak with Judge Madonia and he tells us that he’s felt consistently normal with the exception of a headache that he has had while waiting for his COVID-19 test results.
“I requested a COVID test last Wednesday after my mother was hospitalized that morning with related symptoms. I had it ordered as a precaution because I had been with my mom during the critical phase of her potential infection the weekend prior. I started my quarantine Wednesday before noon and have been in quarantine ever since,” said Madonia.
“I received my positive test result on Friday, but have felt consistently normal with the exception of a headache that I had for a time while I was waiting for my results.
I will be working every day of quarantine handling my daily administrative matters that are associated with being the Presiding Judge of Sangamon County and now officially, the Chief Judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit. This is not quite the way I envisioned beginning my tenure in this capacity, but it’s 2020 so I’ve learned to expect the unexpected. I have been told that I will be released from quarantine on Saturday and I’ll be back at the courthouse on Monday.
I’m fortunate to have a great team of colleagues who will handle my courtroom responsibilities in my absence.”
