Homicide and Arson is 2019 lowest reported crime; Sangamon County Crime Stats

Sangamon County, Illinois – Sangamon County Sheriff, Jack Campbell, has released the crime stat numbers for 2019. As you’re reading and looking at the chart, please keep in mind that these are crimes that the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office has handled and taken a police report for. These numbers do not include crimes investigated or handled by the Springfield Police Department or any other law enforcement agency.




According to the stats, which is displayed below, Arson and Criminal Homicide, was the lowest reported crime in Sangamon County for the year 2019. One report of arson and one report of Criminal Homicide was handled by the Sheriff’s Office.

Criminal Homicide for 2019 has stayed around the yearly average with 1 homicide per year in Sangamon County. Between the years of 2016 to 2019, there was 1 homicide reported. The year of 2017, is the only exclusion, which reported 0 homicides.

Corrandan D. Orr, age 40, who was fatally shot in the head on December 5, 2019 on E. Elliot and N. Wesley St., around 2:23 p.m was the Sheriff’s Office first murder investigation for 2019.

Reports stated that Orr was sitting in a vehicle during the time he was fatally shot. Shortly afterwards, Orr was taken to St. John’s Hospital and was listed in critical condition. As a result of Orr’s injuries, he passed away on December 20, 2019 at 7:15 p.m. At this time, there are no updates regarding Orr’s murder, but Sheriff Campbell has confirmed to Springfield Leaks that the Sheriff’s Office is still actively investigating his murder.




Aggravated Assault/Battery is at its highest numbers for 2019, compared to the previous 3 years. The Sheriff’s Office took 160 reports for Aggravated Assault/Battery in 2019. This was a 7 percent increase for Aggravated Assault/Battery complaints compared to year 2018.

Theft of Motor Vehicle is also down in numbers when you’re comparing it to the previous two years prior to 2019. 62 stolen vehicle reports were taken by the Sheriff’s office in 2019. This was a 25 percent reduction in stolen vehicle reports in comparison with 2018, which had 80 reports of vehicles stolen.

Violation of a Controlled Substance is also down in Sangamon County. 71 Violation of a Controlled Substance reports were taken in 2019, which was a 59 percent reduction of reports, compared to year 2018. In year 2018 the Sheriff’s Office had 130 reports of Violation of a Controlled Substance.

As 2020 kicks off, the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is still needing assistance on two homicides. The homicide of Orr and the homicide of Carlos Blue, aka Dagwood. Although were in our 5th week of 2020, Blue’s homicide will be the first homicide of 2020 being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office.
