Springfield, Illinois – A Springfield resident is back in custody after the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office requested for his probation to be revoked in a 2018 aggravated robbery case.
The Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office asked a Sangamon County Judge on Thursday, January 23, 2020, to revoke Thomas E. Dean Jr., age 24, probation. The State’s Attorney’s Office alleges that Thomas violated his probation because he was ticketed on three different occasions for driving while license suspended in 2019, failed to report several times to probation and TASC appointments and also tested positive for illegal amphetamines.
(TASC, which stands for Treatment as a condition of probation, is a special type of sentencing that judges may choose for defendants who may have a drug or substance abuse problem. The benefit of TASC probation is that if you successfully complete the program, the court will vacate your conviction and your arrest record will be eligible for expungement five years after the end of your probation.)
Later in the day, on Thursday, January 23, 2020, a Sangamon County Judge agreed to a warrant for Thomas’ arrest and set a hearing on January 29, 2020 to hear arguments to revoke Thomas’ probation. Thomas was booked into the Sangamon County Jail on the same day as the warrant was issued for him.
According to sources close to Springfield Leaks, Bruce J. Britt, age 36, who is facing a murder indictment for the homicide of Carlos Blue, is related to Thomas. Our source wasn’t able to confirm the exact relation between Bruce and Thomas, but did confirm that they are family members.
