Springfield, Illinois – Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, has announced that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Allmon released the following statement:
“On or about July 9th I became ill while on vacation, out of state, with my family. My symptoms consisted of nausea and vomiting, I had no respiratory symptoms. I decided to come home early from vacation and self-quarantine. I went to get tested for COVID-19 on July 13th after symptoms continued and speaking to my doctor’s office. That test came back positive. Since the day I was tested, I self-isolated at home and followed recommendations from the health department and CDC until I was released to go back to work (ten days from the onset of symptoms was July 19th).
At this time my exact original contact exposure with the COVID-19 virus is unknown. Although I have been asymptomatic since July 15th, I have not been at the Sangamon County Building since July 7th before I left for vacation. This was my first day back to work in my office. The last few weeks I have worked remotely from home and followed the Department of Public Health’s guidelines and cooperated with their contact tracing. I have since made a full recovery and I was released by the health department last week. It is extremely difficult to discuss my personal health information publicly, but if sharing my experience with the public can help in some way, I feel it is my duty to do so. As I have often said, I would like to continue to stress the importance of social distancing, using universal precautions and wearing a mask when it is appropriate. We must all do our part in the community to not only protect those at hi risk but also to keep the virus load from effecting our school systems, economy, and our businesses.
I hope this transparency about my experience can be a teachable moment for someone else as it was for me.“
