Riverton, Illinois – According to a press release by Riverton Community Unit School District #14, a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 was in a Riverton School building on Monday. As a result, the school district is now going to full remote. Although the press release does not disclose if the person is a student or an employee, a source close to Springfield Leaks did confirm that it is a Riverton Elementary Student who tested positive for COVID-19.
The press release says the following:
“Hawks,
It was reported to us this afternoon that there was a person with a positive COVID-19 test result in one of our buildings on Monday. The person was asymptomatic. All school buildings have been deep cleaned three times by our custodial staff since Monday. Those who may have been in close contact (within a six-foot distance for more than fifteen minutes) with the person will be or have been notified appropriately. Thankfully, due to the efforts of our staff, all mitigation measures were in place, thus limiting the potential spread of the virus. All persons were checked for symptoms and temperature upon boarding buses or entering buildings, all persons wore masks while in our buildings, social distancing was maintained, and all persons increased their hand hygiene throughout the day. We are currently working with the Sangamon County Department of Public Health on contact tracing efforts.
As a result, Enriched Remote Learning will begin indefinitely for all schools of Riverton CUSD #14 on Friday, August 21 in an effort to prevent any outbreaks. We will reevaluate our plan through the next few weeks, and communicate out how we will be proceeding on Monday, September 14, the date of our next Regular Board of Education Meeting. All current extracurricular activities will remain active, and be monitored separately. We will rely on data provided to us by the Sangamon County Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Public Health to guide our decision making, specifically analyzing positivity and hospitalization rates and the total number of cases in Sangamon County. If we are to begin our Hybrid Learning Model again, we will start on Monday, September 21.
We truly appreciate the support and patience of our community throughout these difficult times. We are very glad we were able to see all students who chose to learn through our Hybrid Learning Model, and we hope that we set all students up for success throughout the remainder of this school year. More communication from our schools will continue throughout next week as we transition into Enriched Remote Learning.
Hawk Up!”
