Springfield, Illinois – On January 14, 2020 around 7:39 p.m., a Sangamon County Sheriff Deputy responded to the 3100 block of Cobblestone Ln. for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When the deputy arrived, he observed a silver BMW matching the description of the suspicious vehicle.
While investigating the vehicle, the Deputy was alerted by Sangamon County Dispatch that the vehicle was stolen. The Deputy approached the vehicle on the passenger side and saw Raynaldo D. Brown, age 28, passed out in the front driver seat of the vehicle. While looking from the passenger side of the vehicle, the Deputy also saw several large stacks of cash on the center counsel.
The Deputy then approached the driver side door, with his weapon drawn, and announced he was a police officer. After the Deputy opened the driver side door of the vehicle, Raynaldo woke up and began to reach behind him. The Deputy reports that he grabbed Raynaldo by the front of his shirt and attempted to pull him from the vehicle. In an attempt to pull Raynaldo from the vehicle, the officer reported, “Raynaldo continued to pull away from me and was forcefully placed into the rear passenger side of the vehicle as I attempted to gain control of the suspect. Raynaldo continued to resist by attempting to pull his hands away until he was placed in handcuffs.”
Inside the vehicle, the Deputy located a 9mm Beretta PX-4 Storm on the driver seat of the vehicle with a loaded round in the chamber. A black Xbox one was also located. When the Deputy ran the serial number of the Xbox one, it was determined to have been stolen. Springfield Police also responded to the scene to take possession of the Xbox one.
Raynaldo was arrested and booked into the Sangamon County Jail for Unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, a class 2 felony, possession of a firearm without a valid FOID Card, a class A misdemeanor, resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor, and possession of stolen property.
Raynaldo was released, without charges, after posting 10 percent ($4,000) of his $40,000 bond.
