Springfield, Illinois – Another restaurant employee has tested positive for COVID-19.
An employee at Saputo’s Italian Restaurant, located at 801 E Monroe St., has tested positive for COVID-19.
We reached out to co-owner of Saputo’s, Mike Coffey Jr., by cell phone and he confirmed that the employee did test positive. “That is true, an employee who hadn’t worked for about 5-6 days told us (Monday), and informed the other employees, that he had contracted COVID-19… yes that is true.”
Although Saputo’s is regularly opened on Monday’s, Coffey said he decided to shut down on Monday for several reasons. “One because of that (COVID-19 employee) and we done a thorough cleaning. Got peerless doing a cleaning there as well and then there was a construction project right in front of the building.”
Coffey said that the COVID-19 positive employee had been to Florida several times, although he’s not exactly sure where the employee might have contracted COVID-19.
When asked if other employees were tested for COVID-19, he confirmed that they had been and their test results were negative.
Dine-in and take out service will not change as a result of the COVID-19 employee. “We like as many dine-ins to come in as possible during this,” said Coffey. “Things aren’t great downtown.”
