Springfield, Illinois – Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office announced that three employees have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Sheriff’s Office released the following press release:
“Yesterday, July 29th, the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office had two Correctional Officers test positive for Covid 19. Neither employee experienced any symptoms while on duty and neither had been in the facility since July 24th. Today, a third Correctional Officer, whom has not been in the facility since July 27th, tested positive for the virus, initiating a declaration of an outbreak by the Sangamon County Department of Public Health.
At this time, the positive cases are limited to those three employees, no other employees have reported symptoms or tested positive. No inmates show any signs of the virus. Effective immediately the Sheriff’s Office and the Jail will return to the same state of preparedness and prevention that we instituted back in March. These include mostly internal operations, but the public should know there will be no visitations allowed at the jail until further notice. It should be noted that since March 13th, when we initially instituted some protections, the Sheriff’s Office has booked in 1745 inmates.”
